SOFTWARE USED
Maya, Mental Ray, Realflow, Photoshop, After Effects

The goal for this project was to create a fully animated, 360 degree panoramic render of Sir Ernest Shackleton's ship called "The Endurance" which set sail for Antarctica in the early 1900s. Visitors of the newly created Polk Penguin Conservation Center at the Detroit Zoo would be able to witness this journey that consists of 4 different scenes all synchronized with physical 4d effects, transporting them to the south pole where they can witness the Penguins of Detroit Zoo.

The 3d elements were modelled in Maya with 16k textures created in Photoshop. This was then rendered in Maya with Mental Ray with a final output resolution of 20k x 2k for the 360 degree panorama. The final render was then split across 6 projectors to cover the massive rectangular slanted walls of the building. Nothing beats the experience of seeing this attraction in person but there are some videos below to give you an idea of what it looks like.
